How to Install Fonts in Photoshop Windows 10

Do you want to use a font in your design that's not available in Photoshop? Luckily, you can easily add new fonts and use them in your Photoshop designs. Your newly added fonts will look and work just like your existing fonts.

Whether you use Window or macOS, we've outlined how to import and use new fonts in Adobe Photoshop on both platforms.

How to Add Fonts to Adobe Photoshop on Windows

Windows uses a universal font system where you can install a font once and use it in all your apps. This allows you to use your installed fonts in Adobe Photoshop without requiring any further actions.

Here, we take a look at how you can download, install, and use a font in Photoshop on Windows.

1. Download and Install a Font on Your PC

The first thing to do is to download and install a font on your Windows system. If you've done this already, skip to the next section. If you haven't installed your font yet, close Photoshop on your PC and follow these steps:

  1. Download the font of your choice and save it to your computer. Check out some of the best free fonts websites if you aren't sure where to get fonts from.
  2. If you've downloaded your font as a ZIP file, extract the contents of the archive to a folder.
  3. Double-click on the extracted font file, and you will see the preview of the font.
  4. Click Install at the top to install the font on your system.

The font immediately becomes available to use without requiring you to reboot your PC.

2. Use the Downloaded Font in Adobe Photoshop

Now that your font is installed, you can use it in any of your apps, including Photoshop.

Here's how to use it in Photoshop:

  1. Open Photoshop, and create a new image or open an existing one.
  2. Click the T icon on the left to open the text tool. If you don't see this menu, click the Window option at the top and select Tools.
  3. Click the fonts dropdown menu at the top, and you will see all your installed fonts.
  4. Select the font that you just installed, and it will be available to use in your photo.
  5. Use the dropdown menu next to your fonts to stylize your text with effects like Light and Bold.

How to Add Fonts to Adobe Photoshop on Mac

Adobe Photoshop works pretty much the same way on Mac as it does on Windows. This means you can install a font, and then use it with Photoshop.

You can do that as follows.

1. Download and Install a Font on Your Mac

If you haven't already, you need to download and install a font on your Mac to use it in Photoshop.

Here's how you do that if you've never added a font to your Mac:

  1. Download your font and extract the contents of your font archive to a folder.
  2. Double-click your font file and it will open in the Font Book.
  3. Preview your font and then click Install Font to install the font on your Mac.

2. Use the Downloaded Font in Adobe Photoshop

Your installed font is now ready to be used in Photoshop, and here's how you access it:

  1. Open Photoshop and click the T (text tool) icon on the left.
  2. Choose your downloaded font from the dropdown menu at the top.
  3. If you want, select a variation of the font from the menu next to your font name.
  4. Start typing in your chosen font.

How to Set the New Font as the Default Font in Adobe Photoshop

There isn't much you need to do to set your newly added font as the default font in Photoshop. Simply open the text tool, choose your new font, and that font will become the primary font for the tool.

The next time you access the tool, your chosen font will be pre-selected and ready for you to type your text.

How to Remove Fonts From Adobe Photoshop

If you've installed too many fonts, and you're finding it difficult to choose a font from Photoshop's font menu, you can remove some. This will require you to uninstall fonts from your system because, as we said earlier, Photoshop relies on your system for all your fonts.

If you don't want to remove a font for good, you can disable it temporarily on your system. This is possible using a free third-party app on Windows, but Mac has this feature built into its operating system.

Here's how you do the task.

1. Remove Fonts From Adobe Photoshop on PC

Windows 10 lets you remove installed fonts from the Settings app. Here's how:

  1. Open the Settings app and click Personalization.
  2. Select Fonts on the left sidebar.
  3. Click the font you want to remove on the right, and select Uninstall.
  4. Select Uninstall again in the next prompt.

If you're only looking to disable a font, install the free FontBase app on your PC. This app works as a font manager and lets you disable the fonts that you don't want to use. When you're ready again, you can enable your fonts and they will appear in Photoshop.

2. Remove Fonts From Adobe Photoshop on Mac

Your Mac lets you remove fonts as well as disable fonts without using any third-party font managers for your Mac.

To remove a font from your Mac:

  1. Open the Font Book utility using your preferred method.
  2. Click the font you want to remove.
  3. Click the File menu at the top and select Remove.

To temporarily disable a font on your Mac:

  1. Find your font in the Font Book utility.
  2. Right-click the font and choose Disable.
  3. Click Disable in the prompt.
  4. To enable your disabled font, right-click the font, and select Enable.

Modernizing Your Images With New Fonts in Photoshop

If you can't find a font you want to use in your designs, or if you have made your own font, the above methods will help you add fonts and make them usable in Adobe Photoshop.

Better yet, you can also use your new fonts in many other apps as well, including Microsoft Word.
